Description

The Director of Aviation will have direct operational responsibility for all aviation activities at the company, including oversight of the chief pilot / pilots, flight scheduling and the maintenance staff. In this role you will be responsible for all flight operations and provide overall guidance and aviation expertise to the team to ensure safe and efficient transportation solutions for passengers on the company aircraft fleet in United States, Canada, and Mexico. Partner with key stakeholders to establish the department's budget, supply contracts and collaborate with other teams where appropriate. You will develop, implement, and administer strategic operating policies, procedures and practices for all flight operations while monitoring industry trends and advancements to proactively adapt the aviation strategy. The Director of Aviation is an active pilot position, with approximately 2 to 3 days per week, or as necessary flying the aircraft.

Accountabilities

* Set and drive the corporate aircraft vision and strategy as well as short- and long-term goals to meet company objective.
* Handle all facets of the flight department including flight operations, aircraft maintenance, finances, fleet management, hiring and hangar administration.
* Responsible for all aviation activities, both international and domestic, ensuring all aviation personnel comply with related aviation guidelines, international aviation rules of airspace, aircraft registration, safety, security, and sustainability.
* Partner collaboratively with executive team, senior management, company employees, board members and guest on flight needs.
* Develop and institute department policies and procedures into departmental functions.
* Advise management on the status and requirements of aircraft and other equipment consistent with the company's transportation requirement and goals; recommending additions to the department, which include comparative aircraft studies.
* Responsible for strategy, implementation and benefits realized of operating aviation department.
* Establish and report on measures of effectiveness and efficiency for the department.
* Maintain an active aviation safety program / safety management system.
* Establishing and maintaining records as required by the CFRs, manufacturers, and company policies; monitoring these records if they are maintained by an outside agency.
* Scheduling and establishing criteria for annual technical audits of the aircraft and maintenance operations.
* Maintaining the department Flight Operations Manual (FOM) to include flight, maintenance, and pertinent company policies.
* Coordinating maintenance activities with flight operations to achieve company goals and objectives.
* Implementing specific programs of local, regional, or national concern, consistent with company policy, in such areas as affirmative action, energy conservation, equal employment opportunity (EEO) and environmental awareness.
* Establishing severe weather/natural disaster/emergency response procedures to protect personnel, aircraft, and facilities.
* Oversee all supplemental aircraft needs, assume flight duty to fulfill department flight hours.
* Provide mid-to long-term (three or more years) strategic leadership, development, and talent management for multiple teams. Including ensuring the highest level of customer service; evaluating department personnel periodically to ensure superior levels of performance.

Qualifications - Required
  • A Bachelor's degree in aviation, engineering, aeronautics, aerospace science or a related field, or equivalent experience

  • A minimum of 7 years of aviation management

  • A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience

  • A minimum of 10 years experience as a pilot

  • Must have an Airline Transport Pilot certificate

Qualifications - Preferred
  • Prior leadership experience in a multi-aircraft, multi-faceted flight department

  • Certified Aviation Manager Accreditation

Work Conditions
  • Position will travel 50-75% of the time
  • Capable of reporting to Omaha Eppley Airfield within 90 minutes of notification for duty
